조선 후기 서양 천문도의 전래와 신·고법 천문도의 절충 (The Introduction of Western Celestial Map and the Transformation of Traditional Celestial Planisphere Map in the Late Joseon Korea)

| 초록 | This paper reconsider the influence of Western celestial map on the traditional celestial planisphere map in the late Joseon Korea. Contrary to the previous studies, I will argue that the Western celestial map did not substitute the traditional celestial planisphere map, "Cheonsang yeolcha bunya ji do." During the late Joseon period the traditional "Cheonsang yeolcha bunya ji do" and its variations were widely used outside the royal court. Most Korean astronomers were reluctant to accept the Western method of celestial mapping and only applied some from the point of view of the traditional celestial map. "Honcheon jeondo" was the most famous example of this cautious stance. In short the influence of the Western celestial map had remained minimal until the beginning of the twentieth century. |
